"You have to get lost before you find yourself."

Jeff Rasley

Did you know that Vale do Capão offers a direct trail to Vale do Pati?

In the past, the valley served as a food cultivation area to support mining expeditions. For this very reason, Vale do Capão is one of the gateways to Geraes do Vieira and Geraes do Rio Preto that lead to Vale do Pati. You won't need to travel for hours in a car to start your hike. From here in the Valley, there is an exclusive route option to the most popular destination in the Chapada Diamantina,

And that Cachoeira da Fumaça is located in Vale do Capão?

Contrary to what many people think, Cachoeira da Fumaça belongs to the municipality of Palmeiras and is located within the Vale do Capão. For those who make Vale do Capão their tourist destination, access to Cachoeira da Fumaça can be done completely on foot. without the need to travel by vehicle. The entrance is located in Bairro Campos, a few minutes from the center of the village.

The village of Capão is the starting point for many activities and trails in the region. Some waterfalls and rivers can be reached within minutes of the center and make an ideal choice for a half day trip. Others are kilometers away and require more preparation to not catch you off guard. The surroundings of the village also offer a pleasant short walk for acclimatization and also have points with beautiful views of the valley.
As part of the tropical climate belt, the capão valley is a sunny area with high temperatures and is home to countless species of flora and fauna, including many endemic to the region. In the lower areas, inside the valley, the vegetation is denser and more humid, forming a transitional forest between the cerrado and the Atlantic forest.
At the highest points the vegetation
the predominant one composes the typical scenario of the Brazilian cerrado, with smaller trees and resilient bushes. In these parts, care with the sun must be redoubled due to the greater absence of shadows. It is important to always have water and sunscreen on hand and protection for your head and shoulders. Avoid taking more distant trips without first getting information through maps, the internet and local residents.
Even if some walks seem easy to access at first sight, do not underestimate the natural geography of the Chapada Diamantina. It can offer a higher degree of difficulty for those with little or no trail experience. Some tours can be done with the help of a map, but if you are unsure, always look for an official guide. You will find several options in the village or on the internet.
